Western have had a few opportunities to hit Exeter on the break in this half, but the City players have recovered quickly into position each time. Exactly what you want to see in a pre-season match like this.
Dan Jackson denies Matt Jay! He shook off three challenges before ripping a thunderous shot, which was parried away
Goal! Alex Fisher finds the net! 1-0 to the Grecians.
Lovely low cross from Craig Woodman, after some sterling work in midfield from Tom McCready. City lead in Weston.
Could have been a second for Fisher but Tom Jordan makes a critical clearing header from Davies' cross
Danny Wring fires in a powerful shot from the edge of the box. Good positioning from Olejnik makes it an easy take.
Terrific reactionss Olejnik to keep City ahead. Low cross from Mawson, nearly diverted in off City defender Tillon...
... but Olejnik shifted his body-weight instantly to dive on the loose ball
It's been all Exeter this half but the scoreline is still just 1-0 at the moment
Noble finds Nicholls with a really clever ball, but the linesman wastes no time in raising the flag for offside
Lovely spell of possession football from City leading up to that moment. Matt Jay in particular is moving the ball around very well through the midfield.
Half-time - Weston-super-Mare 0 Exeter City 1. Dominant half by Exeter, though Weston have made a couple of openings
Alex Fisher converted a Craig Woodman cross to give the Grecians the lead midway through the first period...
... 45 more minutes to come at the Woodspring Stadium
Looks like we're going to have an entirely different XI in the second half from Exeter...
From the looks of things, this is Exeter's second half team...
Hamon; Butterfield, Ribeiro, McAllister, Riley-Lowe; Harley, Pope, Oyeleke; Holmes, Wheeler, Nichols.
Mawford, Wring and Ingram off, with Plummer, Grubb and Keary on, for the Seagulls
Goal! Tom Nichols plants a firm finish to make it 2-0 to the Grecians!
It was a loose defensive pass that allowed Tom to pounce with a first-time finish from the edge of the box. 2-0!
Nichols was quick to pounce on the error, and really wrapped his foot round the ball. No chance for the keeper as the ball was in the bottom corner in an instant. Great hit!
Holmes cuts in off the right and bends an effort goalwards, but it's into the hands of Jackson
Terrific again from Holmes to drop a shoulder and get a low cross in from the left. Blocked away though
Weston corner on the left comes to nothing. City counter and eventually Harley pops an effort away, a whisker wide of the upright
Butterfield threads a lovely ball into the path of Oyeleke - he gets a shot away but it's blocked out
Goal to Weston - hats off, that's a terrific team goal and a nice finish from Dale Grubb. 2-1 now.
It was good interplay from Wilson and Plummer before Grubb was sent clear. City still lead though.
Tom Nichols gets a talking to for a naughty challenge
Finally a counter-attack paid off for the home side. Lovely little through-ball from Scott Wilson left Grubb with nothing to do but stay composed and tuck it in to the right of Hamon. Cool finish!
Weston Substitution: Olly Barnes off, Sid Camper on.
Delicate flick from Nichols releases Wheeler in the left channel but his cross is blocked
Nichols then has an audacious shot from distance after shrugging off a challenge in the centre of the park, but it's wide
Solid defending from McAllister, as he clears the ball once at the near post with a brave diving header, and then clears again with the boot as it comes back into the box.
Exeter back in control again, with Holmes and Harley seeing the most of the ball in this half.
Shouts for a penalty as Nichols goes down in the box under a challenge from Fortune... not given!
That was a close call, but Fortune just gets enough of a toe on the ball, and in the end it was a decent tackle... just!!
Holmes skins the Weston defender on the right flank and plays a cross-shot with the outside of his left foot... just wide!
Still 2-1 to City as we approach the end of the game. City corner as a shot is deflected wide
Oyeleke has a shot but it's blocked out - he has had a few efforts this half which have been closed down quickly
Exeter Substitution: Wheeler and Oyeleke off, Watkins and Charles on.
Weston Substitution: Wilson off, Davis on.
Tristan Plummer gives a bit of welly to a free-kick from 25 yards but can't bend it on target
Weston have got into the game far more since their goal, and have seen much more of the possession than in the first hour of the match. However, City still lead 2-1 at the Woodsprings Stadium.
Bradley Ash is denied by Hamon! The goalkeeper was at full stretch to deny the Weston man
Harley tries to find Nichols with a long pass from a deep-lying position, but the forward is caught just a yard off-side. Into injury time now at Woodsprings.
Full-time: Weston-super-Mare 1 Exeter City 2
Goals from Fisher and Nichols for City, and Grubb for the Seagulls
